
Frontier Health, an AI startup targeting NHS administrative challenges, has raised $16 million in seed funding. The company, founded by Rachel Finegold—a former healthcare lead at Palantir Technologies—aims to ease understaffing and inefficiencies in NHS clinics. Launched in 2024, it focuses on tools that reduce waiting times and streamline workflows. By developing AI-powered solutions, Frontier Health seeks to address the systemic issues that have plagued the NHS, including the strain on administrative staff and the subsequent impact on patient care.

JUNO as a Solution
Frontier Health’s core product, JUNO, is described as an AI “teammate” that adapts to NHS systems. Finegold, the CEO, noted years spent in NHS hospitals revealed a gap between staff capability and outdated tools. “Admin should keep patients moving, not slow things down,” she said. The system is already in use across several NHS Trusts, including East Sussex. JUNO’s adaptability is a key aspect of its design, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with existing NHS systems and processes, thereby minimizing disruption to staff and patients.

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust’s Steve Reipond highlighted JUNO’s impact. “Manual tasks consume too much time,” he said. The AI provides visibility for faster decision-making, improving patient outcomes. Reipond added that managing immediate patient needs with future planning was previously difficult. “JUNO gives us forward planning we didn’t have,” he said. This includes anticipating capacity pressures and streamlining information flow during critical moments. By automating routine tasks, JUNO frees up staff to focus on higher-value activities, including direct patient care and strategic planning.

The development of JUNO is also a sign of the importance of understanding the nuances of NHS operations and the needs of healthcare professionals. Finegold’s experience working within the NHS, across more than 40 hospitals, has provided invaluable insights into the challenges faced by staff and the opportunities for improvement.
