Marvel Studios is negotiating with Jeremy Allen White to take over the role of Wolverine in its upcoming X-Men reboot, according to multiple industry sources. White, best known for his Emmy-winning performance as Carmy Berzatto in The Bear, recently engaged in discussions with Marvel about a potential film role. While the studio has not yet made any official casting announcements, reports suggest White would initially appear in a smaller capacity before expanding into a more central part.

The move to recast Wolverine aligns with Marvel’s broader strategy of introducing a younger core cast for its next phase of X-Men movies. Hugh Jackman last portrayed the character in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), though Marvel has left the door open for future appearances. The studio unveiled its preliminary lineup for the reboot at the D23 Expo in August, featuring Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. The absence of Wolverine from that announcement fueled speculation about a recast.

White’s height of 5’7″ is noted as a potential match for the character, as the comic-book version of Wolverine stands at 5’3″. White has historically expressed reservations about superhero films, once describing them as a career “peak.” In a 2023 interview, he mentioned a tense meeting with Marvel executives, where he asked, “Why should I do your movie?”—a question he later regretted.

White revisited the subject in October 2025 on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He admitted his earlier approach was disrespectful but clarified his hesitation stemmed from uncertainty about how he could contribute something unique to the role. When asked about fan theories linking him to Wolverine, he praised Jackman’s portrayal while not confirming his own interest.

Marvel has not confirmed White’s involvement, nor has it dismissed the possibility of Jackman’s return. Kevin Feige stated that the story between Deadpool and Wolverine remains unresolved, leaving room for additional appearances. The reboot, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), is scheduled for a May 5, 2028 release, with updates likely after Avengers: Secret Wars concludes the Multiverse Saga.
